Focus - Christ: The Righteousness of God | Part 1
Ministered by Andrew Norman

In John 4, Jesus was led to a Samaritan city where he met a woman by the well. Through this one woman, many in that city came to believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Savior of the world. This historic moment is critical to note, because it demonstrated how God, through Jesus, broke through the longstanding racial feud between the Jews and Samaritans, bringing the peoples’ hearts into a revelation of Christ. God is doing the same thing in our day, breaking past the many dividing walls amongst the nations, proclaiming Christ to be His righteous standard on the earth.

Christ is the title given to God’s appointed Savior of the world. Jesus was approved for such a title as He was born of the Father, raised to maturity, walking perfectly in righteousness. In other words, Jesus fully embraced God’s righteous way in every situation at all times. As He did this, He was fulfilling the prophecy of His undoing/destroying the works of the devil inside of humanity (Genesis 3:15). Through His righteous life, death, and resurrection, God now had the legal right to produce a whole new race of people who were as righteous as Jesus, and therefore could also be declared Christ on the earth. This is the Church, the body of Christ.

Those of us who have received the Holy Spirit have become one with Christ Jesus and are placed into His body (1 Corinthians 12:13, Galatians 3:27-28). Therefore we are made the very righteousness of God and by nature, are able to do the things that please Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). The apostle Paul witnessed this before His salvation, through Stephen, a young deacon who displayed compassion and humility towards his aggressors as they stoned him to death. Later on, after Paul's conversion, others began testifying that he too was very Christ by way of his preaching and his life (Acts 9:22).

Considering how Stephen’s sacrifice pleased God (Acts 7:55-60) and brought Paul into the kingdom, alongside the far-reaching impact of Paul’s ministry through His own sufferings, we are also called to make righteous sacrifices to God that can be used to bring others to salvation. Jesus illustrated this by stating that a corn of wheat must be buried in the ground for it to produce much fruit (John 12:24).

One example of this sacrifice is speaking the truth in love. Despite any situation or relationship, we are mandated to declare His righteousness at all times by our words and actions. This is preparation for the millennial reign of Christ Jesus, where we will reign alongside Him, enforcing His righteousness in every corner of the earth.

If you are not saved, believe in Jesus today so you can be freed from sin and reborn into the righteousness of Christ.  If you are saved but are not walking in righteousness, quickly repent and embrace the righteous nature within you again. There is no time to lose!
