Focus: Dealing with Offenses & Unforgiveness (Part 2)
Ministered by Pastor Andrew Norman
The purity of God's Word is powerful enough to enable us to overcome this world. God has called the Church to holiness and to be free of unforgiveness in this life. Offenses will rob us of fulfilling our purpose in God in these last days, and so we must let go of offenses and allow ourselves to be strengthened by the Spirit of God. He will never leave us nor forsake us, and as He dwells in us, His desire is that we walk in His purpose and embrace His grace to love and forgive at all times.
No matter how holy we are, offenses will come our way, but in order to overcome them, we need to operate in the same faith as Jesus Christ. We will be tested; we will encounter experiences that are meant to try and prove our faith. This is what all saints must endure in order to be worthy of reigning with Jesus. We must prove to principalities and powers that we can be trusted by God to be a light in this world. God does not want us to be disheartened because of the offenses that will come, but He encourages and reminds us in Psalms 34:19 that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers us out of them all.
There is no circumstance that God cannot bring us through. Jesus is the Mighty Conqueror and He enables us to be victorious in Him. He wants us to be victorious in forgiving those who hurt us and does not want us to vacillate in and out of offenses, but to live a consistent, offence-free life.
As we live offense-free lives, we need to pay attention to our words. Some people are of the belief that words do not hurt, but this is not true. Words can make or break us. When we use words to hurt each other, we are not walking in love. Rage-baiting, for example, is using words to enrage someone. Sarcasm, slander, gossip, are all ungodly, and as Jesus says in Matthew 12:36, we will give an account on Judgement Day for every idle word spoken.
There is an opportunity in offenses for the sons of God to glorify God and grow in Him. We must see that if we take on an offense, it is by choice because by nature, we have the ability to love everyone and walk in peace. We overcome offenses and forgive others not by our own strength, but by the strength of the Holy Spirit. God will not allow us to be tempted above what we can bear. Remember that there is no temptation that is uncommon to man and there is no trial that exists that someone has not overcome before. Yes, persecution and offenses will come, but Jesus wants us to overcome them and walk in His freedom. Let's listen to the instruction of God in our hearts and embrace the peace of God as our way of life.
