Focus: Follow Peace With All Men (Part 1)
Ministered by Pastor Andrew Norman

Peace can be defined as the absence of strife with God and people; the freedom from all distresses associated with sin, and the result of being joined or set at one with another (reconciliation). True peace is not merely an emotion, but a state of fellowship with God which drives a continuous, intentional pursuit to see that reality experienced in the lives of others.

God first demonstrated this by sending His son Jesus to restore what sin tore from man - peace with God. Adam's sin brought enmity between God and the human race but Jesus, the second Adam, undid that enmity by His life, death and resurrection (Romans 5:19). Today, everyone who receives the Holy Spirit (gets saved), is made one with God. His Spirit then takes the responsibility of bearing witness of that reality within us whether our souls are indeed at peace with God as we live (Romans 8:16).

While this peace is now resident in the believer, God further cultivates and establishes it by leading us into different situations and relationships. His main objective is for us to demonstrate and be grounded in this peace we have received, even when people or situations do not change. He wants us to become mature sons, that all eyes in the natural and spiritual worlds can behold and testify together that we are indeed peacemakers, just as Christ was on the earth (Ephesians 3:8-9).

This is why we cannot fake having peace. Only a heart/mind in total agreement with God experiences His peace, just as it was when we first got saved. God sees if there is iniquity/darkness in our hearts, and will even allow other spirits to see it too. Therefore, sin should not be entertained even in our imaginations. We should never pursue anything that requires us to lay aside the peace of God to obtain it.

Regardless of our role, vocation or calling, every child of God has a duty of carefully following peace with all men as we will stand before God to give an account for our deeds in this life (Hebrews 12:14). Let us therefore examine ourselves by answering these questions with all honesty, "Am I at peace with God and people right now?" "Are my emotions only that of righteousness, peace and joy, or are there some situations and people I struggle with?"

If there is a lack of peace in our hearts as we respond, it is proof that we are in danger of facing eternal condemnation. Yes, one seemingly insignificant offense can send us to hell.  As God begins to unveil the mindsets that oppose His peace from being expressed, repent of them quickly.

If you are not saved, repent of your sins and begin to seek God for his peace to make its home inside of you. His desire is that you know peace that surpasses knowledge, because you now choose to embrace His way and no longer your own.
