Focus: The Church and the 2nd Coming of Christ (Part 2)
Ministered by Donnette Norman
The word Church (from the Greek, ekklesia) means the called out ones. The Church is God’s amazing idea and creation. It is an army of New Testament believers foretold throughout the Old Testament and its spiritual significance can be seen in the various roles it plays in God’s grandeur plan ie. being the body of Christ, a holy nation, the temple of God, the Bride of Christ and much more. Its importance to God is most proven by the price paid to purchase it - the sacrifice of the sinless life of Jesus Christ.
The Church is called to be a witness of Christ to the world. Each of its members are to be a vessel God can freely use to physically extend Himself. This partly entails being His microphones as we amplify the call for people to be saved and prepare themselves for His return.
The Church began on the Day of Pentecost and throughout its existence there have been multiple occurrences (e.g. the dark ages) which attempted to take it off course. Nevertheless, God's promise that His truth endureth to all generations (Psalm 100:5) will always stand. Therefore, despite many false doctrines and out-of-the-way teachers, God always has His righteous vessels - those who have received and express the life of Christ.
Among the Church however are also "Christians by association" which are those who do not know God and have never truly experienced Him. It is not the many who claim to know Jesus but those who are baptized by/filled with the Holy Spirit and walking uprightly that He will claim as His (1 Corinthians 12:13-14, Revelation 14:12).
Jesus promised that He would build His Church, His people. As the day of His second return approaches, great revivals that were prophesied will come to pass. This fulfillment of His plans includes His five-fold ministers, whom He will use to further build and perfect His body (Ephesians 4:11-12).
As this perfection is being done, there are certain things prophesied that the Church must endure before His arrival. One of those things is the establishment of the Anti-Christian system. Nevertheless, even through those oppressive times, God will perfectly preserve those who depend on Him completely.
There are a number of oppositions to people preparing for Jesus’ Second Coming. Embracing sin in any form and false doctrines will blind anyone from the truth. Also, where there is a lack of true apostles, teachers, prophets, etc, believers will not be raised up to fulfill their purpose and endure in the times approaching.
In light of this, if you are a member of The Church, do all to secure your place with Christ when He returns (2 Peter 1:10). If you are not, don't delay! Repent and cry out to God for His Holy Spirit so you too can be part of His Church.
