Focus: The Church and the 2nd Coming of Christ (Part 3)
Ministered by Jermaine Johnson
What is The Church? Better yet, who is The Church? Many persons think the church merely represents a building or a place of worship while others believe it is a space only for women or the gathering of "poor people". These however are all big misconceptions.
According to 1 Corinthians 12:13-14, Christians/saints, have been baptised into One Body by One Spirit (the Holy Spirit); who dwells within them all . This body is referred to as The Church. Therefore, The Church is not a building or location, but rather the saints themselves. They are also considered the Bride of Christ, clothed in righteousness, and will be presented to Him spotless when He returns (Ephesians 5:25-27 ).
The Church is called to be a witness of Christ in the earth and the light of this world, shining in the darkness (Acts 1:8, Matthew 5:14). This is our reality regardless of our position/role in the Body, whether it be a pastor or otherwise. We are all called to spread the Word of God across the earth, even as we abide by it. While those submitted to darkness (sin) allows darkness to further advance, it is our responsibility as light to ensure truth is administered to as many souls as possible.
We do this most effectively by being an example of The Word to those watching.
You are a part of God's Church if you have been born again by receiving the Spirit of Christ. You are seated together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus and hereby able to manifest His power and character (Ephesians 2:5-7).
The sole purpose of our time on the earth is to manifest Christ. However, if we don't acknowledge and embrace the grace of God then it won’t be possible. It is the Holy Spirit’s responsibility to create a passion for God; a deep love for mankind; and a heart with the ability to fulfil righteousness. Darkness will not be able to overcome this light/power in our hearts.
Therefore, consider then that if you have not experienced this power, then it may be that you are not a part of the Body of Christ but rather a Christian by association (you are among The Church, but not in The Church). As Jesus' return draws closer, only those who completely depend on God’s power will be preserved (Matthew 24:13). We must remain grounded and focused on Christ. Let us not embrace any sin, false doctrine, nor earthly entitlement, as these will distract us from God and our purpose as The Church. Walk in the Light and you will remain secured in Christ.
