Focus: The Church and the 2nd Coming of Christ (Part 4)
Ministered by Claudette Williams, Andrew & Donnette Norman
Because Jesus' return draws even closer, He is prudently bringing His Church into a greater awareness of the truth about it. This will sanctify, mature and equip us for greater service (Ephesians 4:11-15, 5:25-27). Let's explore some questions/concerns relative to said event:
💎 Why do persons avoid the book of Revelation?
This is primarily due to fear and/or ignorance. Clarity and confidence come when we approach God's word with a pure heart. Moreover, when the Church is righteously governed as in Ephesians 4:11-15, truth will be revealed to more hearts. God blesses those who read and heed the book of Revelation, yet warns of judgment if one taints or undermines it (Revelation 1:3, 22:18-19).
💎 Describe the current state of the Church. What will it and the world look like before Jesus’s return?
The Church is defiled due to numerous carnal mindsets which some members are embracing. They may be purged again through the work of God’s five-fold ministers and personal submission to God.
As the Great Day approaches, the Church will become purer and brighter (Proverbs 4:18) while the world will become viler (2 Timothy 3:1-7).
💎 What is the Rapture? Is the ‘any-minute’ rapture true?
The rapture is the gathering of the saints to receive their immortal bodies as they meet Christ in the air (1 Corinthians 15:51-54). Specific prophetic events must precede same, hence the ‘any-minute’ doctrine is false at this time. Note that Jesus can transition us personally (natural death before the rapture) so we must live holy every day.
💎 What does Jesus coming as ‘a thief in the night’ mean?
This analogy is explained in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8 - as a thief comes unexpectedly while one is likely sleeping and unaware, so will Christ’s return meet
Christians who are living unholy (sleeping) by surprise. We are called to live in sober and joyful expectation of Christ’s return.
💎 Why did Jesus use parables? What was He teaching through that of the Ten Virgins?
Parables are earthly stories containing heavenly truths. Jesus employed them to help his hearers understand the ways of His kingdom. In Matthew 25:1-10, Jesus was communicating that only those who receive His Spirit, and consistently obey and fellowship with Him would enter the kingdom of God for eternity.
💎 How can we maintain our oil (fellowship with God)?
By continuing in the same mind/attitude of humility, desire, and love for God as at salvation; examining our hearts daily and repenting of any other mind.
💎 How can we spread a greater awareness of Christ’ return?
By first embracing the gospel in our own lives, we can effectively demonstrate/minister it to others. Also, we can fuel the legacy of the gospel by encouraging youths to stay connected to the Word of God and those walking righteously.
Finally, Jesus remains faithful to not only build His Church but reject those who rejected His grace throughout their lifetime. It is therefore wise to embrace His Word by all means to meet Him in peace.
